I have 2 different WD drives a Passport and a My Book, the My Book was unrecognized when.Oh, and always remember to safely eject your drive before unplugging its cable.When you think that way they are very reliable and work well. It's only when you constantly expect them to work when being abused that they give real problems which when all is said and done is nothing more than you can expect. To eject your WD my Passport drive from your Mac, just right-click on its icon on your desktop. In the dropdown menu you see, click on 'Eject'.The normal thing to happen is the Partition Table to get mucked up which generally causes the drive to be unreadable but occasionally the partition Tables will be different to each other so you get reported file errors.I have not seen that happen on a Macbook or MBP. In shooting another video for Call That Geek, I found that my WD Passport not recognized in the system.Running Check Disc Repair generally fixes the problem however.As for the Passport failures you need to understand that External Drives like it are not considered as Permanent Storage they are at best Temporary Storage subject to rapid failure. Like all electronic devices Heat & Vibration wreak havoc with electronics so the longer devices like your Passport External Drive are used the more likely they are to fail.
